Ongoing Care

If you have noticed any signs of gum disease, it is important to have it treated as early as possible. Early treatment is what preserves your teeth.

Call us if you notice

  • Gums that bleed when brushing or flossing
  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Persistent bad breath or a bad taste
  • Gums pulling away from teeth, or teeth that feel loose

Gingivitis: The Early Stage

Gingivitis is gum disease in its earliest form. Red, puffy gums and bleeding when you brush or floss are the signs to watch for.

At this stage the condition is reversible. Whether you are already a patient here or are new to our practice, we can help you reverse early gum disease before it causes tooth loss.

Periodontitis: Advanced Treatment

Periodontitis requires more involved treatment. We provide scaling and root planing — under local anaesthetic, we clean away accumulated tartar from beneath the gums and smooth irregular areas on the tooth roots. As the gums heal, they reattach more closely to the roots.

Immediate treatment matters. Advanced gum disease has been associated with higher rates of heart disease, stroke, respiratory problems and pregnancy complications. In many cases our treatment has helped patients keep teeth they were told they would lose.
